Well it's the "New Year" if Dick Clark counting down and the ball dropping wasn't the clue you needed..... go to the gym. Dave and I went to the gym today after I got out of work and it was awful!!! People were walking around with their personal trainer worksheets trying to figure out which machine is the leg extension and which is the leg abductor. These people also take extra time on the machines to make sure they are doing the correct weight, sets, reps, seat adjustments, etc. Which then takes me longer to begin MY next weight training exercise because I have to wait for the machines. I gave up weight machines after lifting with my legs and switched over to free weights... that area was also busy with sweaty, stinky men who would rather prove that they can lift a lot instead of proving that they can do it correctly. All the grunting, back bending, and sweat got me out of that area quick as well. I am wondering why guys think it's neat to "grunt" every time they push up the weight and use their backs instead of their arms to actually push the weight back up?
Don't get me wrong... I'm not making fun of people with sheets...as a physical educator I encourage all to join a gym, use a personal trainer, follow a workout sheet, and get exercise at least three times a week... just not during my time at my gym.

I am that person who doesn't have a clue when it comes to those huge machines that you are supposed to manipulate. I often find myself sitting at the ab machine just daydreaming and not using the machine. I hate sitting down at a machine and having to get up in shame because I have no idea what I am doing only to find out I am facing the wrong way in the seat! It happened! So have pity on us, at least we are there and trying!
No worries, give it a month and they will be out of the gym! :-) Some folks like Julianne started well before the New Year and still don't know how to use the machines, but we all love the hardcore clueless (just kidding Juli). I have to give credit to all, as my weight lifting these days is a diet coke to my lips (or was that a glass of wine?!?) Hummm, maybe I will wait until February when all of the New Year's Resolutions have given up and start then. Oh well, just give it time and your gym will return to normal. Love ya, Kim
You are so right Kim! I need to learn how to use those machines. Don't be afraid!! There are so many nice trainers around but I am scared that if I ask them a question they will charge me a trainer hour! :-) Today Leslie showed me how to do two more machines. The inner thigh ones...Resistance together and apart! I will be unable to walk tomorrow. Or do anything else!
I raise a glass of diet coke or wine to anyone who gets to the gym. You are a gym queen Kim and will be an awesome Feb. member! And Robyn, be nice to the clueless ones!
