The 43 minute & 1 second mile
I did it! I completed my mile. And it only took me 43:01 to complete! This might seem like a slow time for a mile, and it is, because even a couch-potato can walk a mile under 20:00 with the ambition. But I swam the mile. If you remember back in August I posted about how Dave took a photo of me in my swimsuit, and as soon as I left the photo store I drove to the local YMCA and joined (while also signing Dave up). I haven't been consistent and going everyday. ( It's hard to establish a routine when some nights I have to go to a meeting on student after school and yadayadayada). Excuses really. I have tried a lot at the YMCA. The treadmill, the elliptical, bikes, weights, I even signed up once for a 5:45am strength and conditioning class (the roof leaked the morning I was supposed to go to that class). But swimming I can actually make myself do. And tonight I swam 72 lengths of the pool, making a mile. It's slow, and it makes me think back to my high school days of swimming a lot further in the same amount of time! But that's okay; I figure I am working out just as hard because since high school I have gained weight, making my muscles work harder pulling the extra weight through the water, hence... I am still working out as hard as I did in high school (sounds believable right?). Okay that’s it. Off to make dinner, rice and vegetables for me, and chicken for Dave (after burning 636 calories I can’t eat a terrible dinner, I’ll do that tomorrow).
